Terms of Service
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Vortex website, launcher, client software, and any plugins or services offered through them (together, the "Service"), operated by Vortex ("we", "us", or "our"). By creating an account, claiming a key, subscribing, purchasing a plugin plan, downloading, or using any part of the Service, you ("you" or "User") agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not access or use the Service.
The short version (the full Terms below are what count):
- The Vortex client is free for one client at a time. VIP is a subscription that removes that limit.
- Premium plugins are sold separately as one-time purchases for a set period. Each says how many sessions of that plugin can run at once, and never adds extra clients. Buying again adds another period.
- VIP renews automatically until you cancel. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- All sales are final. We don't offer refunds, including for renewals or unused time, except where the law requires it.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it you represent that you are 18 or older and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. The Service is intended for personal, non-commercial use.
2. The Service and its plans
The Service is downloadable software and associated online features for Old School RuneScape. It is a digital product delivered electronically; there is no physical item, shipment, or tangible good. It is offered on the following plans:
- Free. Any account can claim one free key. A free account may run one Vortex client at a time and use every plugin we offer for free.
- VIP. A paid subscription, billed monthly or yearly. While it is active, your account may run more than one Vortex client at a time. "Unlimited" means we do not set a commercial limit; we may apply technical limits to protect the Service from abuse, set well above what a person playing the game would use.
- Premium plugins. Some plugins are sold separately, as their own plans. Each plan states its price, how long one purchase lasts, and the maximum number of sessions of that plugin your account may run at the same time. A premium plugin plan does not include VIP or any additional Vortex clients: on a free account, a plugin can only run in the one client that account may use.
What each plan includes, its price and its billing period are shown on our website and at checkout before you pay.
3. Accounts and keys
Accounts are linked to your Discord identity. Your Vortex key is a credential for your account: what it lets you do depends on your account's plan, not on the key. You are responsible for all activity under your account and for keeping your key and credentials confidential. You agree to provide accurate information and not to share, resell, sublicense, or transfer your account, key, subscription or any plugin plan to any other person. We may suspend or terminate an account we reasonably believe is shared, resold, or used in breach of these Terms.
4. Purchases and payment
Payments are processed by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. We do not receive or store your full card details. By making a purchase you represent and warrant that (i) you are authorised to use the payment method, and (ii) the billing information you provide is true, correct, and complete. Prices are shown in the currency displayed at checkout.
We may refuse or cancel any order at our discretion, including where we suspect fraud, an unauthorised transaction, or a breach of these Terms. Prices and product descriptions may contain errors; we reserve the right to correct them and to cancel affected orders.
5. VIP subscriptions and premium plugin purchases
Premium plugins are one-time purchases. One purchase gives access to that plugin for the period shown at checkout (for example one month), starting when your payment is confirmed. It does not renew and you are not charged again. If you already have access to the plugin with at least the same number of sessions, a new purchase starts when your current access ends, so buying again adds time. When your access ends, the plugin stops working in your clients until you buy it again.
VIP is a subscription. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly, as chosen at checkout) and you authorise us and Stripe to charge your payment method for each renewal until you cancel. Your access for each period begins when that period's payment is confirmed.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from your account page ("Manage billing"). Cancellation stops the next renewal. It does not end the current period: you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for, and then your account returns to the Free plan.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe may retry it for a limited time. If the payment is not collected, the subscription ends and so does the access it provided.
Price changes. If we change the price of a plan, the new price applies to new subscriptions. We will notify you before a new price applies to your existing subscription, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
6. No refunds, and chargebacks
Access is granted as soon as your payment is confirmed and cannot be returned. All sales are final and payments are non-refundable — including subscription renewals, premium plugin purchases, partial billing periods and time you did not use — except where a refund is required by applicable law. If the Service does not work on your system, contact support first and we will try to resolve the issue.
If we issue a refund anyway, or a payment is reversed, the access that payment provided ends.
Chargebacks. If you believe a charge is incorrect, you agree to contact us before initiating a chargeback or payment dispute with your bank or card issuer. Initiating a chargeback for a digital product that has been delivered and made available to you, without first giving us a reasonable opportunity to resolve the matter, is a breach of these Terms. You acknowledge and agree that, to defend against such disputes, we retain and may present to payment processors, card networks, and banks a record of your purchase, including your Discord account identity, your acceptance of these Terms (with timestamp and IP address), your payment and billing details as provided to Stripe, and the delivery and usage of the Service. When a payment is disputed, the access it provided ends, and we may suspend or permanently terminate the account of any User who initiates a chargeback in breach of this section.
7. Premium plugins
Premium plugins may be developed by us or by independent developers we work with. We may temporarily switch off any plugin for everyone — for example when a game update breaks it, or to protect Users — without that being a breach of these Terms; your plan continues while it is switched off and no refund is due. If we permanently withdraw a premium plugin, we will stop selling it, and you keep access for the rest of the period you paid for while the plugin remains available.
8. Customers of our previous plans
If you held an active paid Vortex licence when these Terms took effect, your account was moved to VIP until that licence's expiry date, together with access to every premium plugin available at that time for the same period, at no extra cost. Your existing key keeps working. When that period ends your account returns to the Free plan unless you subscribe.
9. Licence
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and payment of any applicable fees, we grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to download and use the Service for your own personal use, within the limits of your plan. You may not copy, redistribute, resell, sublicense, publish, or make the Service available to any third party. All intellectual property rights in the Service remain ours or our licensors'.
10. Acceptable use
You agree that you will not:
- share, resell, sublicense, or transfer your key, account, subscription, or any plugin plan;
- circumvent, disable, reverse engineer, or interfere with any licensing, session, client or plugin limit, or any other protection measure in the Service;
- use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in a way that harms us or other Users;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to the Service, its servers, or other Users' accounts.
11. Data we collect and why
To operate the Service, enforce plan limits, prevent fraud, and defend against payment disputes, we collect and retain information about your account and use of the Service, including your Discord account identity; your subscriptions and purchases and the billing details you provide to Stripe; the IP addresses and approximate locations (country and city) from which you sign in; device and hardware identifiers and running client and plugin sessions, used to enforce plan limits; and your acceptance of these Terms. Our Privacy Policy describes this in full.
12. Termination and refusal of service
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service, and disable your account or key, at our discretion and without notice, including where we reasonably believe you have breached these Terms. We may decline to provide the Service to any person at our discretion. On termination, your right to use the Service ends immediately and no refund is due for any remaining subscription period, except where required by law.
13. Disclaimer of warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service, or any plugin, will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that it will keep working after changes to the game. You use the Service at your own risk.
14. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or relating to your use of the Service. Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid to us in the three (3) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.
15. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your use of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
16. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the version and effective date above. Each purchase requires a fresh acceptance of the Terms then in effect. If a change materially affects an active subscription, we will notify you before it applies to your next renewal, and you can cancel before then.
17. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Canada, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Service will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located there. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under the consumer protection laws of the place you live that cannot be excluded by agreement.
18. Entire agreement and severability
These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service and supersede any prior agreements. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
